Concealed Handgun Permit Renewal
Overview
For students who already hold a Louisiana concealed handgun permit and need to renew, and for lifetime permit holders who are required to complete refresher training every five years.
Louisiana renewal training requirements
Under LAC 55:I.1311(B) (and La. R.S. 40:1379.3(V) for lifetime permits), renewal training taught by a department-approved instructor must include: handgun nomenclature and safe handling; ammunition knowledge and pistol shooting fundamentals; shooting positions; use of deadly force and conflict resolution (including La. R.S. 14:18–14:22); child access prevention; and live range fire with proper handgun cleaning. The live-fire standard is 36 rounds (12 each at 6, 10, and 15 feet), a safe reload at each distance, and 100 percent hits within the silhouette of an NRA B-27 type target.
